The Sinking City is an action-adventure mystery horror video game developed by Frogwares and published by Bigben Interactive, inspired by the works of horror author H.P. Lovecraft. Set in the fictional fishing town of Oakmont, Massachusetts during the 1920s, the story follows private investigator and war veteran Charles W. Reed as he searches for the cause of Oakmont’s unrelenting flooding and the terrifying visions compelling dozens of people to travel to the town.

The Sinking City is an open-world detective game with a third-person camera perspective. It features an open investigation system in which the outcome of the player’s quests will often be defined by how observant the players are when investigating different clues and pieces of evidence.[8][9]

The town of Oakmont is made up of seven districts (Advent, Coverside, Grimhaven Bay, Oldgrove, Reed Heights, Salvation Harbour, and The Shells) which have all been affected by flooding to various degrees, and the player must use a boat to safely traverse the flooded streets to reach drier areas.

The Sinking City is set to be released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch later.

ok so this is set like pre WW2 yet this city has an integrated police force and news paper. im note sure if this is bad world design because its historically inaccurate or great world design because H P lovecraft would be terrified

I like the art creation in this game. But for me, it's only half finished. Why I say that? That clunky animation of the guy running/stopping. So wooden. Then there's there's the lack of life in the city. The ocean is moving, yet all the boats are completely still. Or how there is no animation for him getting off/on the boat. He simply teleports from the boat onto the shore. That's SO bloody lazy! As a previous game designer it really isn't too hard to do. There's monsters in certain areas and no one is freaking out or having blockades, or dialogue, nothing.
It's like buying a really beautiful, highly polished car….then you check under the hood and battery is missing. There's clunky cog wheels. No oil. Stuff like that.
Absolutely no atmosphere. No crafty involvement. No side dialogues. It's a basic game that relies on the Unreal engine doing its task (which it does well), and inserting a few monsters here and there (way too early I might add).
oh. AND NO FFFFFUCKING !!!! TUTORIAL . Here's our game, boom! now figure all this complicated shit out on your own good luck!
I'll finish this eventually since I bought it, but….I'm really quite disappointed in this game because I love Lovecraft horror…..and there's just no horror. Just really cool artwork.

The game seems very inspired by the Cthulhu mythos, The Yellow King a shape shifting entity related to Cthulhu and the obvious Cthulhu references and images of his eyes or tentacles. Love this way more than the call of Cthulhu and feel that this is a nice game
